Gyudon

  • 1-2 onions
  • 1lb thinly sliced beef (frozen cheesesteak)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 cup stock (beef or dashi)
  • eggs
  • 2-4 cups cooked rice (short grain)
  • scallions
  • sesame seeds

  

  1. Prepare rice
  2. Heat oil in pan. Thinly slice onions and cook the onions for 10 minutes.
  3. Add the beef and sugar to the pan and cook until beef is browned.
  4. Add mirin, soy sauce, stock. Bring to a simmer, then cook for 10-15 mins to reduce stock.
  5. Cook eggs sunside up in a separate pan - keep the yolks runny.
  6. Add rice to a bowl, top with beef and egg. Garnish with scallion and sesame seeds.
